Heritage preservation is the practice of protecting tangible and intangible elements of cultural and historical heritage for both current and for future generations to experience and utilize.  The City conducts this work through the Heritage Preservation Program.  This includes sharing information after research as well as historic landmark designation of historic properties. These landmarks help create our community identity.  Buildings, structures, objects, sites, and districts, recognized as historically significant are designated as Historic Landmarks under the City Unified Development Code (UDC) Section 60.200.040.C.

Heritage Preservation enhances the vibrancy of neighborhoods and cities, instilling pride and value through increased property values, as well as enhanced quality of life, sense of place, and neighborhood pride.  Our history is the shared story of how our community came to be who we are today. We value preserving the fullness of this story so that future generations can take pride in those who came before them and be inspired to care for who will come after.
