The Rochester Fire Department, with Riverland Community College, is proud to host a High School Firefighter Program for local 11th and 12th graders each year. There is no out of pocket cost to students, completing the course earns college credits for students and state certification is offered at the end of the program.

Educational Information

The RFD High School Firefighter Program is a hybrid course, meaning classwork can be done in school or at home, and RFD instructors hose seven hands-on days at various locations in Rochester over the course of the school year.

The program covers all of the basic firefighter courses needed to apply for a fire department, including:

Firefighter 1
Firefighter 2
Hazmat Operations

The course earns students a total of nine college credits from Riverland Community College.

Firefighter 1: Five Credits
Firefighter 2: Two Credits
Hazmat Operations: Two Credits

Students are considered to be in concurrent enrollment while participating in this program (not PSEO).
