For the second time in four years, Rochester Public Library (RPL) has been recognized for its innovative work in the city. On Tuesday, the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota named RPL as one of 19 winners of this year’s Local Government Innovation Awards (LGIA).

The City of Rochester Parks and Recreation Board of Commissioners will discuss geese impacts in the park system at the November 13 Park Board meeting. Humane management strategies will be reviewed but no action is expected from the Park Board at this meeting.

The Rochester Fire Department will dedicate its new ladder truck with a “push-in” ceremony Thursday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m. at Fire Station 1 (521 S. Broadway). The new 107-foot Pierce Velocity ladder truck replaced the old Truck 12 last week and began responding out of Fire Station 1.

Crows have been an issue in Rochester and throughout the world for decades. The City of Rochester continues to make crow abatement a priority. Due to an increase in crow activity, abatement activities will begin for the season on November 5, 2018.

The City of Rochester Parks and Recreation Department and Art4Trails is pleased to announce two calls for public art. The first being a call for four installations for the bike trails near Downtown Rochester. The second being a call for eleven art installations at Cascade Lake Park.

Between November 1 and December 31, 2018 the forestry department will conduct their annual inspections for EAB. Inspections will be conducted on both public and private property in accordance with City Ordinance 47.

City Administrator Steve Rymer will be recommending that a Convention & Visitor Authority (Authority) be formed in early 2019. The non-profit Authority would be responsible for all functions currently performed by the Mayo Civic Center and Experience Rochester in a singular organizational structure.
