Lawns to Legumes Application and Planning Workshop

  • Date: 02/24/2020 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Location: Cascade Meadow
    2900 19th Street NW
    Rochester, Minnesota 55901
  • Introduction: Convert part of your lawn to pollinator habitat! This workshop will cover how to apply for and plan a Lawns to Legumes project.
Are you interested in applying for a Lawns to Legumes grant? At this workshop we will walk you through the process, and help you plan for success in your project!

Minnesota is where Great Lakes meets Great Plains. We have more shoreline than California, the most boats per capita, and at least 450 species of native bees. But water quality and pollinators are both threatened by the development of natural areas into buildings, parking lots, and lawns. Your yard can help protect our wildlife and our natural resources. By introducing native plants to your yard, you can provide precious habitat for our struggling pollinators while also reducing the amount of water that runs off your property and into your local body of water. Their beautiful blossoms share delicious, nutritious pollen and nectar with bees and butterflies, while their roots grow deep into the soil, channeling and filtering stormwater while also storing carbon and reaching water and nutrients.

The workshop is presented by Blue Thumb and sponsored by the City of Rochester, Olmsted Soil and Water Conservation District, and MN Board of Water and Soil Resources.

Metro Blooms, a metro area non-profit organization, works to strengthen communities by promoting environmentally-sound landscaping that beautifies neighborhoods and protects our environment. Metro Blooms coordinates the Blue Thumb partnership – an expanding network of public and private partners working towards planting for clean water.
