Rochester Police Department has a Police Explorer program/post designed to give young people an opportunity to explore a career in law enforcement or a related field in the criminal justice system.

Explorers get a first-hand look at the policing profession through community events, ride-alongs and training activities. They also have an opportunity to participate in skills competitions.

Candidates must submit an application and complete an oral interview.

To learn more about Police Explorers or to apply, contact one of the advisors: Officer Matt Venteicher (mventeicher@rochestermn.gov, 507-993-6929) or Officer Alex Kendrick (akendrick@rochestermn.gov).

History of Exploring

Exploring, which originated as part of the Boy Scouts in 1935, includes hands-on programs that provide young adults an opportunity to explore a specific career. There are several other posts in the Rochester area including ones at Mayo Clinic, the Rochester Fire Department and the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office.

RPD's Exploring Post 12 is in honor of Officer Floyd Haley's badge number. Officer Haley was killed in the line of duty in 1967 when he interrupted a burglary.
