In 2019, the City of Rochester created a Sustainability and Resiliency Task Force whose purpose was to develop and implement a Plan with input and guidance from Rochester residents. The task force included a diverse cross-section of the community and task force members leveraged existing commissions, committees, community organizations, and nonprofits to create the Sustainability and Resiliency Community Work Plan (SRCWP).

The SRCWP centers on six core areas: Climate Change Resiliency, Vibrant Neighborhoods, City for Health, Accessible Transportation, Resilient Economy, and Environmental Health. These focus areas underscore strategies for economic, environmental, and social resilience, providing a framework to guide the city’s future decisions. By doing so, the Plan not only prepares the community for both anticipated and unexpected challenges but also fosters growth and strengthens the community through its achievements.

The Sustainability and Resiliency Community Work Plan was completed in 2021 and updated in 2024. The Plan was formally accepted as a City of Rochester guiding document by the City Council on August 19, 2024. An  Executive Summary is also available to view.
