Air Quality
Air quality is closely linked to sustainability and greenhouse gas emission reduction goals. Poor air quality, often caused by pollutants like carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, and other greenhouse gases, contributes to climate change and impacts public health. Cleaner air supports a healthier environment, reducing respiratory illnesses and other health problems caused by air pollution.
To better understand the air quality in Rochester throughout the day and year, the City partners with Destination Medical Center, Olmsted County, University of Minnesota Rochester, the Sierra Club, We Bike Rochester, and resident scientists to measure air quality at multiple sensors located throughout Rochester. The group, known as the Rochester Air Network, gathers data used to identify strategies to improve air quality throughout the city. Live data is available for public view and download on the PurpleAir website.
