THURSDAYS ON FIRST & THIRD - WK #12
PEACE PLAZA STAGE:
5PM: Lee Murdock
7PM: Calan
Calan (kah-lahn) bring together the remarkable talents of 5 young musicians giving a fresh and vibrant sound to traditional Welsh music. With a contemporary and lively approach they breathe new life into the old traditions through their sparkling melodies, foot tapping tunes and spirited and energetic performances of Welsh step dancing. They blast their way through some of the old favourite reels, jigs and hornpipes with fast paced and uplifting arrangements before melting into some of the most beautiful and haunting songs. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts & cultural heritage fund.
1ST AVE. STAGE:
5PM: JT & the Gun Slingers
7PM: Whiskey Stone
Minneapolis-based Whiskey Stone is defining their role in the Minnesota Roots-Rock movement. Christina Rayne (vocals) is supported by guitarists Jordan Glynn and Alek Glauvitz, Jeff Lungstrom (bass) and Zach Spicer (drums), creating a blend of Rock n’ Roll like you have not heard before. With inspiration coming from 70's classic rock, 60’s country, and blues from throughout the last century, the result is a group reminiscent of the southern rock greats, with the attitude and sound only found in the upper midwest. Founded in early 2015, Whiskey Stone has spent the last year perfecting their recipe on stage and in the studio, and utilizing each of their diverse backgrounds. Rayne has been a true powerhouse throughout the upper midwest for a number of years now, performing across the globe with well over 1,500 shows under her belt. Glynn has spent most of his career as a producer, guitarist, and songwriter, working with both indie and major label artists across the U.S. and Europe, while Glauvitz has spent much of his career in artist relations. Lungstrom, a long time player in the Twin Cities, performed with several very successful groups before Whiskey Stone, and Spicer has been a go to live and session drummer for other artists across the nation. The result is a high energy, memorable performance put on by five artists who are just beginning to show their true potential. Artists who love what they do, who they do it with, and who they do it for.
