Farah Siraj, a Jordanian singer, will perform with the Honors Choirs of Southeast Minnesota on Saturday, November 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rochester Civic Theatre (30 Civic Center Dr. SE). Tickets go on sale Tuesday, October 24. Farah will perform three selections with local youth choral ensemble the Honors Choirs of Southeast Minnesota, under the direction of Rick Kvam.
Each season, 250-350 young singers from up to 25 communities and over 50 area schools sing with Honors Choirs of Southeast Minnesota. Now beginning its 31st season, Honors Choirs has grown from one choir of 29 high school singers to an organization of over 340 singers in grades 1-12, singing in five different ensembles.
Named Jordan's “Musical Ambassadress”, Farah Siraj fuses her influences of Middle Eastern music, flamenco, jazz, bossa and pop in her music. Farah currently leads an ethnically diverse quintet of Arabian flamenco jazz, with world-class musicians from the Middle East, Europe, the United States and South America. Her sound has been described as the “Norah Jones of the Middle East.”
