Overview and Introduction to Draft Maps

  • Date: 02/25/2022 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
  • Introduction: The City announced draft maps would become available on Friday, February 25, 2022, along with dates for public comment opportunities. This session will provide an overview and introduction to those draft maps.

With the release of the redistricting map by the State of Minnesota, the City of Rochester will move into the map drawing phase of its redistricting process. This will include a series of upcoming virtual meetings, a digital survey and a recommendation to the City Council to review and vote on as early as the March 21, 2022 City Council meeting.

The next series of meetings will include one informational session and four listening sessions. The
listening sessions will be used to gather feedback on draft maps. Polco, an online survey tool used by the City, will also provide an opportunity for community members to respond to the draft options. The feedback gathered will then be used to inform the final recommended map. Due to an increase in population, especially in Ward 1 and Ward 3, the Ward boundaries and precincts are all expected to change in some way.

The online Polco survey portal will be open February 25 to March 6. Directly following the March 6 Open Comment opportunity, the City will utilize the week of March 7 to March 11 to finalize the recommended map, based on the feedback gathered from the community. The finalized map is expected to be brought to the City Council on March 21, with a final deadline of no later than March 29.
