Rochester Fire Department Fire Suppression
The Rochester Fire Department (RFD) is contracted to provide fire suppression to Cascade, Rochester, Haverhill, and Marion Townships. Firefighting within these areas and in the non-hydrant areas within the city limits is performed utilizing engine companies, tankers, reserve engine companies, and on some occasions, truck companies responding from 4 stations located within the Rochester city limits. These fires involve such things as vehicles, utilities, residential structures, and agriculture structures. Water supply for firefighting is provided by the engines on-board water tank and by the water dumped from a tanker into a portable tank.
Firefighting involving brush, woods, large grass areas, and fields are performed utilizing two grass rigs, and an off road vehicle. If the incident is large enough, engine companies and tankers may become involved. Water supply is provided by the grass rigs on-board water tank, fire hydrants connected to the municipal water system, the engines on-board water tank, and water from a tanker.
RFD provides mutual aid firefighting services to surrounding community fire departments upon request.
